Review: First Draft in 30 Days by Karen Wiesner
Quick review for a quick read (though I actually read this earlier on than the day I'm reviewing it - I picked it up from the library among a number of other reads for writing supplements).
This wasn't a bad guide for a beginning primer in plotting a story, and I'll admit this is one of the few books I've seen take a comprehensive approach to outlining.
Problem? The first draft in this book IS the outline, and it really doesn't expand upon that point and leaves you with the impressions to go at it for yourself. I did like the writing and plotting advice, and that's worth getting from this text as well as the examples it gives, but if you want something with a little more meat as an end product and guidance directly, it's probably better to use this as just a supplemental text, rather than primary.
Overall score: 3/5 stars
