NetGalley Haul: Week of 9/21/2015

What We Left Behind - Robin Talley This Song Is (Not) For You - Laura Nowlin Hot Toy - Jennifer Crusie The Shock of Night (The Darkwater Saga) - Patrick W. Carr Controlled Burn (Boston Fire) - Shannon Stacey

I'm a little belated on the book haul from last week, but it's still within something of a regular time frame.  I'll be doing my usual book haul on Thursday of this week as well, as I did a few more requests that are pending for the time being.

This will be a list of new approvals (at least the ones I got in recent notations) and only five, as I'm still working through my stack of reading and reviewing.  Here they are, in no particular order:

What We Left Behind - Robin Talley

"What We Left Behind" by Robin Talley

Publisher: Harlequin Teen

Release Date: 10/27/2015

Rose's Reading Date: Week of 10/19

I really enjoyed Robin Talley's "Lies We Tell Ourselves", so this is a given read for me, and I was excited to get it as a galley. And it deals with teen characters who are GLBTQ and struggling with their relationships and identities.

This Song Is (Not) For You - Laura Nowlin

"This Song is (Not) For You" by Laura Nowlin

Publisher:  Sourcebooks Fire

Release Date: 1/5/2016

Rose's Read Date: Week of 11/16

I actually ended up getting this one way, WAY early, but I really enjoyed Laura Nowlin's previous book "If He Had Been With Me" (which had a gorgeous cover - I really like the design of this one as well), so I was happy dancing when I got the approval for this.  Two bandmates are best friends and write songs with each other. Enter third bandmate who gels with the band musically, but the relationships are thrown into a quagmire.  I'm deifnitely looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

Hot Toy - Jennifer Crusie

"Hot Toy" by Jennifer Crusie

Publisher: St. Martin's Press

Release Date: 10/13/2015

Rose's Read Date: Week of 10/5

Yes, yes, I know this was published before in an anthology, but this is new to me because I've never read it.  And it's Jennifer Crusie!!!  (Yeah, in case you can't tell, I love her works.)  The description's giving me deja vu of "Agnes and the Hitman" - which I remember being totally crazy, but I enjoyed it quite a bit.  I could use a sweet, funny romantic read right about now.

The Shock of Night (The Darkwater Saga) - Patrick W. Carr

"The Shock of Night" by Patrick W. Carr

Publisher: Bethany House

Release Date: 11/3/2015

Rose's Read Date: Week of 11/5/2015

So really, this had a very short description in NetGalley, but I was intrigued by the cover and the small bit of info that I got from it.  Plus - sci-fi and fantasy are among my favorite genres, so why not?

Controlled Burn (Boston Fire) - Shannon Stacey

"Controlled Burn: Boston Fire" by Shannon Stacey

Publisher: Carina Press

Release Date: 12/1/2015

Rose's Read Date: Week of 11/23

I requested this one because I really enjoyed the books I've read from Shannon Stacey in the past.  She builds characters so well and the chemistry usually leaps off the page.  So a fireman and a woman who happens to be the granddaughter of an elderly couple end up being united during a cold winter in an apartment complex?  Let's go for it!

That's all for the approvals up until now.  I'll have another (and more timely list) ready later this week.

Cheers,

Rose
