Reading progress update: I've read 19 out of 265 pages.

The Fan Fiction Studies Reader - Karen Hellekson, Kristina Busse

I'm only 19 pages in this thing and I'm already far more impressed with the way this book breaks down the use of fanfiction in multiple scales than anything in "Fic."  One of the things that struck me is how they break down the use of fanfiction as a pedagogal tool (using it to teach "literacy, basic language, and writing skills") as well as personal identification for analyzing the whys and hows fans are attracted to their particular fandoms in "psychological and cultural identity construction."

This is pretty fascinating stuff and I'm not even past the introduction yet.  I hope the essays are just as good.
