Relationship Smarts: How to Navigate Dating, Friendships, Family Relationships, and More (USA Today Teen Wise Guides: Time, Money, and Relationships)
"Relationship Smarts: How to Navigate Dating, Friendships, Family Relationships and More" is a well written, basic guide to relationships intended toward a teen audience. I wouldn't say it's the most comprehensive resource on dealing with the various kinds of relationships that exist, but it's a decent overview touching base with many relationship matters and issues, supplemented with quite a few linked resources for young adults/teens. I think it's the kind of resource that would be great to give a general overview in a health/wellness perspective, particularly considering the way they describe relationships as contributing to overall health - discussing parental relationships, romantic relationships, acquaintances, among others. The book also touches base with a number of various conflicts such as bullying and physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. Would it replace a health/wellness textbook in terms of the depth and investment it goes into these particular topics? Not so much, but I could see this being a quick reference guide for a class presentation or a brief overview of some of the topics touched upon, and the statistics given in the book are quite interesting given in context with some of the issues discussed. I do wish that for some subjects a little more depth could've been supplemented, but for the context and ease of reading it, its a nice reference to have in quick measures.Overall score: 3/5Note: I recieved this as an ARC from NetGalley, from the publisher Learner Publishing Group/Twenty-First Century Books.
